So, I'm taking Networks this semester. And there's one person in particular who consistantly uses IM abbreviations in their email. This wouldn't be so bad, if it weren't for the fact that they post ALL THE BLOODY TIME. IM abbreviations are fingernails scraping on a chalkboard to my eyes. And short of a quick percussive instruction session with people, it is very difficult to get people to stop using them.

Enter the Greasemonkey.

As you may or may not know, Greasemonkey is a Firefox plugin which allows people to install and run custom javascript on pages that match a URL filter. I personally have it installed because there are a couple of extremely useful scripts for Kingdom of Loathing, which happens to contain the WANG - which attempts to correct various IM abbreviations.

Anyways, I wrote a quickie Greasemonkey script that will convert some of the worst IM abbreviations in webmail. If anyone else has any interest in this, let me know and I can post it for your amusement.

So, I know that most people here at CMU prefer using LaTeX over Microsoft Word. But I know that some of you use Word, like I do. And I'm willing to bet that some of you people who use Word also use iTunes. I don't know how many people here have seen the FoxyTunes extension for Firefox, but what it does is it lets you control music players from Firefox.

Well, I got inspired the other day to try doing the same thing in Word. FoxyTunes is handy because it lets me change songs without having iTunes come up and make me lose my spot and train of thought. I figured that having the same thing in Word is as useful if not moreso.

So, long story short, I've got a working version of a toolbar I call 'iTuner', and I'm wondering if anyone would like to help in any 'alphatesting'. Or, if you're interested in it, but don't want to worry about software-in-testing on your computer, let me know and I can fill people in when I have a more polished version of it.

So, yeah. I got bored the other day with the work that I had to do, and my mind started wandering. This made me afraid, so I was glad that I had the "I must not fear!" plugin. I then decided to make a similar plugin, except with the Litany of Beer. It seems to be working. My question, though, is would anyone else have any interest in this, or is it something that I've just done for shits and giggles?

I found this a long time ago, lost it, and found it again. So I'm posting it here, so I don't forget about it later.

I find it highly amusing that I score 80% Christian and 20% Catholic. If you ask me, it seems highly suggestive that being Christian and Catholic are mutually exclusive. Hmm...

You scored as Buddhist. You are a Buddhist
You basically get lost in the sea of conflicting ideas as your mind hasn't been developed to discern truth from halftruth. You entertain many philosophical ideas that don't apply to your daily life or actually fulfill you in any way. Maybe you didn't have a strong background of faith and morality growing up, which is why you have basically no convictions whatsoever. Follow your heart, it will guide you to the obvious truth and its simplicity will astonish you. Tarot cards, astrology, and witchcraft will be a temptation for you. Be careful.

Also, ganked from mcnutcase: Something to rival Bowling for Monitors. As McNutcase says, "This guy is nuts."
Oh yes - two other things:
- The nice part about Microsoft being here, is that they give free stuff. I went into the lounge and I saw a broken (a la leap) rubik's cube, and a pile of non-broken-a-la-leap rubik's cubes. I decided to take one of them with me, with a slight... modification to it. I want to see physics_dude's reaction when he tries to solve it.
- I feel honored that at least one contribution of mine will hopefully last longer than I will at CMU:
